A Big Decision and Its Consequences
The time comes in everyone's lives where they have to relocate. Could be to a different house, a different neighborhood or even a different city. Back in 2022, we chose to move from Lubbock, in west Texas, all the way to Bryan/College Station, a trip of over 400 miles one way. A new location promises new opportunities, but it also requires giving up what you have and what you're comfortable with. When we moved here, I lost all of my photoshoot connections, and had to rebuild my network from scratch.
The Team
As we were in the process of moving, a young lady reached out to me wanting to do a shoot. She was a fan of my work, and wanted to do something for her birthday with her friend. I was happy to do the job, since that was my way of getting acclimated to the area.

Starting Out
We started the shoot after getting to the studio, which was located in a restored building in downtown Bryan. The studio was absolutely beautiful, with exposed structure and large open windows bringing in tons of natural light. After some adjustments and getting the ladies ready, we started shooting.
Getting into the Swing of Things
As we started getting more comfortable, and I started to understand each ladies' personality, I started finding ways that got more out of each shot. The outfit changes also started getting more unique and interesting shots, which they all turned out really good, if I do say so myself.
When we got the red dress change, that's when I hit my stride. I saw the ladies checking themselves in the full-height mirror, and then it hit me. I brought out the mirror, and started capturing their reflections, which turned out absolutely incredible. Still some of my favorite shots to this day.
Looking Back
I'm glad that this shoot happened, mainly because it showed me that I can continue my photography even in a new city and circumstances. Living almost an hour away definitely makes things more difficult, to say the least, but it can still be done. I love photography, and I will continue to pursue it, whether its profitable or not, because I love doing it. It's my creative release when I feel overwhelmed by work or stress. It's a new challenge to take on when the opportunity is there. I hope to keep going and do more, if you're reading this, and are looking to work together. Reach out, let's grab coffee and talk about it.
