Venturing Out

While we were out vacationing, we stopped in Red River, a small ski town north of Angel Fire. I was told it was a bit more geared for tourists, which immediately caught my interest. After about 45 minutes, we made it into Red River. The town was gorgeous, a great mix of classic ski town with a modernized twist.

Exploring the Streets

We decided to walk down the main drag and check out the town. When you travel with a photographer, you immediately expect them to slow the group down. This definitely happened to be the case, because there was just so many unique things to photograph there in town.

The Freedom to Explore

There were a few opportunities for me to wander off from the group when we stopped and the ladies went into a few of the stores. Those opportunities created some of the best shots of the whole trip. My favorite shot of all, being the Bronco I found off the main drag.

Cool Places

Going through Red River, we visited some really cool places that I would highly recommend visiting when you have a chance.

Bear X-ing, Red River, NM

Bear X-ing, is a bear-themed gift shop that primarily sold wood carved items and knick-knacks. They had a large collection of carved bear signs that New Mexicans would use at their front doors as welcome signs. It was actually a lot of fun watching my son as he walked through and called out all of the different kinds of bear statues he saw. From bears at a computer, to bears fly fishing to bears doing see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil. It was absolutely adorable watching him with an enormous smile the whole time. Amazing craftsmanship, would highly recommend going in there and taking a wander through the amazing collection of woodworking.

Steam Coffee Company, Red River, NM

Steam Coffee Co. is a local coffee shop in town, and in my opinion, was the best coffee in Red River. They were easy to find because the shop was in a retrofitted railroad car, hence the name. Once I went in, I knew immediately that the attention to detail would be high based on the coffee. Every time I go somewhere, I always try to get a bag of coffee to take back with me, and this was the place.

Exploring the River

Now for the second half of our day. The weather was off and on rain, so we packed into the car, and drove up and down the main road to wait the rain out. We ventured north of the town, and we spotted a bend in the river that had a large whirlpool, so we took note to come back and see this area.

Once the rain stopped and the sun came back out, we went down to explore that area of the river. That was where I got some of my favorite photos from the entire trip.

Getting to see my son walking with my dad down to the river to throw sticks in and watch them float down the river was one of the most special moments of that trip. This is the main reason why I take photos, I'm creating memories that we can look back on years from now, and remember all of the fun we had with the people we love.
